Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

Processing Traumatic Memories

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence-based approach to counselling that focuses on processing and integrating traumatic memories.

At Breland Counselling, our EMDR sessions are designed to help clients reduce the emotional distress associated with traumatic experiences and promote healing and resilience.

Understanding EMDR

EMDR is based on the idea that traumatic memories can become stuck in the brain and body, leading to symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Our therapists use a structured and phased approach to help clients process and integrate these memories, reducing their emotional charge and promoting healing.

Bilateral Stimulation

In EMDR sessions, clients engage in bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones, while recalling distressing memories. This process helps activate the brain’s natural healing mechanisms, allowing clients to process and integrate traumatic experiences more effectively.

Building Resources

Before engaging in trauma processing, our therapists work with clients to build internal and external resources, such as coping skills, relaxation techniques, and support networks. These resources provide a foundation for healing and help clients feel safe and supported throughout the EMDR process.

Promoting Integration & Healing

EMDR therapy promotes integration and healing by helping clients process and integrate traumatic memories, beliefs, and emotions.

Our therapists provide compassionate support and guidance throughout the process, helping clients navigate their healing journey with greater ease and resilience.
