Motivational Interviewing

Empowering Change and Growth

Motivational interviewing is a client-centered approach to counselling that focuses on exploring and resolving ambivalence about change.

At Breland Counselling, our motivational interviewing sessions are designed to help clients identify their values, goals, and motivations, and take meaningful steps towards positive change.

Understanding Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is based on the idea that individuals are more likely to change their behaviour when they feel heard, understood, and supported.

Our therapists use a collaborative and non-judgmental approach to help clients explore their ambivalence about change and discover their intrinsic motivations for growth.

Building Self-Efficacy

Central to motivational interviewing is the concept of self-efficacy, or the belief in one’s ability to change. Our therapists work collaboratively with clients to identify their strengths, resources, and areas of motivation, empowering them to take ownership of their change process and overcome obstacles.

Exploring Values & Goals

In motivational interviewing sessions, clients are encouraged to explore their values, goals, and priorities, and consider how their current behaviours align with their desired outcomes. By identifying discrepancies between their values and actions, clients can gain insight into their motivations and begin to make meaningful changes.

Supporting Change

Our therapists provide compassionate support and encouragement throughout the change process, helping clients identify and overcome barriers to change, celebrate successes, and navigate setbacks.

By fostering a collaborative and empowering therapeutic relationship, we empower clients to take meaningful steps towards positive change and growth.
