  • Provide individual counselling to adults 18+ navigating a range of experiences, which may include trauma, grief and loss, life transitions, relationships, boundaries, identity, burnout, body image, stress, and systemic or relational challenges.

  • Develop and provide therapeutic interventions that are responsive to each participant’s goals, context, and clinical needs.

  • Build meaningful therapeutic relationships grounded in curiosity, compassion, collaboration, and respect for each person as the expert in their own life.

  • Use strong clinical judgement and reflective practice to understand complexity, assess risk, and provide ethical, trauma-informed care within your scope of practice.

Administrative duties include:

  • Maintaining timely, accurate, and ethically sound documentation in accordance with regulatory and practice standards.

  • Managing scheduling, rebooking, continuity of care, and caseload expectations in alignment with practice processes.

  • Responding thoughtfully to risk and crisis situations within your scope of practice and seeking consultation when appropriate.

We are committed to providing care that is culturally responsive, anti-oppressive, and grounded in ongoing learning and accountability. This includes an active awareness of the impacts of colonization and the ongoing realities faced by Indigenous Peoples across Canada. We recognize that reconciliation is not a statement, but a continuous practice that requires reflection, action, and responsibility.

As a counsellor within our practice, you are expected to practice with an understanding of how systems (e.g., healthcare, education, child welfare) shape the experiences of individuals. You will engage in anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice, recognizing power, privilege, and systemic barriers. Counselling is relational, thoughtful work that requires flexibility, presence, and care for self alongside care for others. Physically, the role primarily involves extended periods of sitting, standing, and working in a therapeutic office environment. You may occasionally move or organize office materials and must be able to maintain a welcoming, accessible therapeutic space.

Mentally and emotionally, this role requires sustained attention, clinical reasoning, reflection, and the ability to remain present with people experiencing complex and sometimes emotionally intense circumstances. You may support therapy participants through trauma, grief, relationship challenges, life transitions, and experiences of systemic and/or relational harm (this list is not exhaustive and does not capture every type of story that will come into your therapeutic space)

You will need to hold emotional complexity while maintaining clear, ethical boundaries and sound clinical judgement, including responding appropriately to risk and crisis within your scope of practice. The work requires self-awareness, emotional regulation, adaptability, and a willingness to engage in ongoing reflection and consultation.

We recognize that counselling asks a lot of clinicians. At Breland Counselling, we value sustainability, connection, and meaningful support for our team, and we are committed to creating conditions where clinicians can do meaningful work without carrying it alone.

If you feel aligned with this work and are drawn to relational, collaborative counselling that honours people as the experts in their own lives, we welcome you to connect with us.
